Description
This is Si Jin Bao’s version of a classical formula composed by Zhang Zhongjing and recorded in the Jīn Guì Yào Lüè(Essentials from the Golden Cabinet), c. 200 CE. The formula opens the chapter on Xiōng Bì — chest painful obstruction — as the foundational composition from which the other formulas in that chapter are built. Its three classical ingredients are Guā Lóu (Trichosanthes fruit), Xiè Bái (Chinese chive bulb), and fermented rice wine, decocted together as the formula has been prepared for over eighteen centuries.
